When does Shift at Midnight release?

The release date is July 22, 2026. The developer announced 11:00 AM EDT / 15:00 UTC; check the live regional storefront for final availability.

How much does it cost?

The developer announced a $9.99 USD base price, regional pricing, and a launch discount. The price displayed by your storefront at checkout is final.

Is it single-player or co-op?

Both. You can play solo or in online co-op with up to three players. Proximity chat is an advertised multiplayer feature.

Is there crossplay?

At launch, Xbox console and PC Game Pass/Xbox PC players can play together. Steam does not join that launch crossplay pool. The developer plans broader crossplay after release. See the full compatibility matrix.

How many Nights are in Story Mode?

The full game advertises 13 randomized shifts. Random generation means encounter order can vary. See the Nights overview.

What do players do?

Run a gas station by stocking, cleaning, taking deliveries, and meeting quota. Interrogate customers, inspect identification, compare computer records, and observe behavior because some customers are doppelgangers. A missed threat can return and force the team to barricade, use traps, fight, or hide.

The Xbox description says each customer can be asked up to five questions. The official expanded demo update also documents fuel service, vehicle searches, a health system, pocket inventory, store reviews, a randomized terminal shop, decorations, and save files. See the complete gameplay systems guide.

What pets can you choose?

Before the first shift, choose a cat, husky, puppy, or goose. The developer says the pet needs medicine within the first three shifts, paid from personal profit. Completing that objective with healthy margins can unlock the ability to bring the companion to work, where it helps clean some mess. Read Pets & Medicine.

What are the minimum PC requirements?

Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, a dual-core Intel Core i3-2100 / AMD FX-4300-class processor, 4 GB RAM, a GTX 750 Ti / Radeon R7 260X-class GPU with 2 GB VRAM, broadband internet, and 822 MB available storage. See the full minimum and recommended table.

Is the demo the same as the full game?

No. It teaches the core loop, but the developer describes the multiplayer demo as three non-randomized preview Nights. The full Story Mode has 13 randomized shifts. Read Demo vs Full Game.

Is it on Xbox Game Pass?

Xbox Wire lists Shift at Midnight as a July 22 day-one release for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The store listing also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, achievements, cloud saves, and Xbox cross-platform co-op. Read Xbox, PC Game Pass & Play Anywhere.

What is Endless Mode?

Developer launch announcements describe an unfinished Endless Mode Beta with infinite Nights, unlocked after completing Story Mode. Steam separately gives a Q4 2026 window for a major free expansion with exclusive customers, weapons, traps, and monsters. See the Endless Mode Beta record.

Does Story Mode have multiple endings?

Yes. The developer’s release-date announcement says the 13-Night Story Mode has a handful of endings. Exact choices and triggers remain held until they can be reproduced on the released build; the site will not turn a single report into a universal ending guide.

What is planned after launch?

Developer announcements discuss a Steam public server browser at launch or shortly after, broader crossplay later, a free update expanding Story and Endless, and a major Q4 2026 Endless expansion. These are targets rather than shipped guarantees. The Roadmap & Post-Launch Updates page keeps each window and evidence boundary separate.
