Steam PC Game Pass / Xbox PC Not supported at launch

The developer’s official FAQ says Xbox console players can play with PC Game Pass players at release. Steam does not have launch crossplay. Full crossplay and a server browser are planned for a post-release update, but no undated plan should be treated as a live feature.

Player count and chat

Shift at Midnight supports solo play or online co-op for up to three players. The store descriptions highlight proximity chat, so distance and positioning can affect team communication during a shift.

For console online multiplayer, check the Xbox product page in your region for the currently required subscription. Xbox Play Anywhere indicates that an Xbox-store purchase can participate across supported Xbox and Windows devices; it does not turn a Steam purchase into an Xbox entitlement.

The current Xbox listing also names achievements, cloud saves, Series X|S optimization, 4K Ultra HD, and online co-op for two to three players. The dedicated Xbox & Game Pass guide explains entitlement and subscription boundaries without mixing them with Steam ownership.

Before forming a group

  1. Confirm that everyone owns the game in a compatible ecosystem.
  2. Install pending updates so all players use the same build.
  3. Test microphone input and proximity chat before customer traffic becomes busy.
  4. Agree on counter, floor, and support responsibilities.
  5. If connection options differ from this page, trust the current in-game menus and latest developer announcement.

Quota Alert: “PC” is not one matchmaking platform. Steam PC and Xbox/PC Game Pass may use different services even on the same hardware.

If your group is new, combine this matrix with the first-shift role plan.
